Q: Does health insurance cover counseling?

A: Yes, the state of Massachusetts requires all insurance coverage to include mental health services. You need to check your plan for specifics and limits. Our practice accepts private health plans, Blue Cross, Harvard Pilgrim, and Tufts.

Q: How do I know if I am depressed or just having a rough-time period?

A: Depression is one of the most common and yet under-diagnosed problems in our country. The symptoms are extremely variable: problems concentrating, withdrawal, bouts of sadness or crying, excessive irritability, headaches, sleep disturbances, lack of joy, and decreasing energy are some of the common ones. Medication and therapy are almost always successful as a treatment.

Q: What is the typical length of time someone spends in therapy?

A: There is no definite answer for how long someone stays in therapy. Many times short-term solution therapy helps individuals and couples get back on track. You should discuss goals and expectations with the therapist you select.

Q: My relationship is in trouble but my significant other refuses to go for help—is there anything I can do?

A: Going to individual counseling may help you deal with what is happening in your relationship. The other person may see positive changes and realize the benefit of seeking outside help. But even if the other person doesn't make changes this will help you make choices for your life.
